Subsea Nodule Recognition and Deployment Detection Method Based on Improved YOLOv8s
An improved small-target detection model based on YOLOv8s is proposed to address the challenges associated with deep-sea polymetallic nodule detection, such as complex target shapes, small sizes, and strong environmental interference.

Marked Variability in Distance‐Decay Patterns Suggests Contrasting Dispersal Ability in Abyssal Taxa
ABSTRACT Aim We assess the role of spatial distance and depth difference in shaping beta diversity patterns across abyssal seascape regions. We measured the decrease of faunistic similarity across the northeast Pacific seafloor, to test whether species turnover rates differ between deep and shallow‐abyssal biogeographical provinces and whether these ...

Linkages between the Genesis and Resource Potential of Ferromanganese Deposits in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans [PDF]
In addition to iron and manganese, deep sea ferromanganese deposits, including nodules and crusts, contain significant amounts of economically interesting metals, such as cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), and rare Earth elements and yttrium (REY ...

Internal features, mineralogy and geochemistry of ferromanganese nodules from the Gulf of Cadiz: the role of the Mediterranean Outflow Water undercurrent [PDF]
A large suite of Fe–Mn nodules (561 samples) were recovered during the Anastasya 2001 cruise (TASYO project) along the continental margin of the Gulf of Cadiz (Eastern Central Atlantic), at the confluence of the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic ...

Draa Sfar, Morocco: A Visean (331 Ma) pyrrhotite-rich, polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit in a Hercynian sediment-dominant terrane [PDF]
International audienceDraa Sfar is a Visean, stratabound, volcanogenic massive sulphide ore deposit hosted by a Hercynian carbonaceous, black shale-rich succession of the Jebilet terrane, Morocco. The ore deposit contains 10 Mt grading 5.3 wt.% Zn, 2 wt.%

Deep bottom currents, sedimentary hiatuses and polymetallic nodules [PDF]
Recent studies undertaken by the Centre National pour l'Exploitation des Oceans have focused some attention on the environment of nickel- and copper-bearing iron-manganese nodules in the Tuamotu Archipelago region of the South Pacific. The results indicate that the distribution of the nodules is closely linked to that of deep currents in the area.

Habitat heterogeneity is known to influence faunal community structure, but its influence on deep-sea benthic communities remains understudied, particularly for polymetallic nodule environments in abyssal waters.
