Antiviral Activity of Polyacrylic and Polymethacrylic Acids [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Virology, 1968
Polyacrylic acid (PAA) and polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) were investigated for their antiviral properties in tissue culture. Compared to other related polyanions, as dextran sulfate, polystyrene sulfonate, polyvinyl sulfate, and polyphloroglucinol phosphate, PAA and PMAA were found to be significantly more antivirally active and less cytotoxic.

Potentiometric titrations of polymethacrylic acid [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Polymer Science, 1947
AbstractPotentiometric titrations of polymethacrylic acid were performed at different concentrations, different molecular weights, and in the presence of neutral salts, as well as in dioxane‐water mixtures. It was shown that the pH of the solutions fulfills the relation, pH = pK — n log [(1 — α)/α].

Sorption of Heavy Metal Ions by Composite Materials Based on Polycarboxylic Acids and Bentonite Clay

open access: yesEurasian Chemico-Technological Journal, 2021
The paper shows the study results of sorption capacities of composite gels based on polyacrylic and polymethacrylic acids with bentonite clay as the mineral filler concerning heavy metal ions (Pb+2, Cu+2, Ni+2, Zn+2, Fe+2, Cd+2).

Laser Raman Spectra of Polymethacrylic Acid [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 1969
Laser-excited Raman spectra are reported for polymethacrylic acid as a solid, an aqueous gel, and a strongly alkaline aqueous gel. The spectrum of the neutral gel is identical with that of the solid, although alkalization produces some changes. The spectra are analyzed in terms of changes in chain configuration.

Polymethacrylic Acid Shows Thermoresponsivity in an Organic Solvent [PDF]

open access: greenMacromolecules, 2019
The alternating sequenced copolymer poly-(methacrylic acid-alt-hydroxyethyl acrylate), p(MAA-alt-HEA), was recently found to display a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behavior in 1,2-dim...

Composite Polymer-Clay Hydrogels Based on Bentonite Clay and Acrylates: Synthesis, Characterization and Swelling Capacity

open access: yesEurasian Chemico-Technological Journal, 2017
Clay minerals, especially montmorillonite, as well as bentonite minerals with a high content of montmorillonite, have the highest ability to adsorb various organic compounds.

Negative Thixotropy of Aqueous Solutions of Polymethacrylic Acid [PDF]

open access: bronzeNature, 1955
SUFFICIENTLY concentrated aqueous solutions of polymethacrylic acid (about 8–15 per cent, depending on the degree of polymerization) form clear stiff gels at room temperature. At somewhat lower concentration, such systems are sols. On heating, these sols can be converted into gels; on cooling, the gelation is completely reversible, the gels reverting ...

Study of immobilization of bolaform ions on polymethacrylic acid

open access: diamondBIO Web of Conferences
The study of the interactions of polyelectrolytes with organic ions, in particular bolaform ions, that is, having a mirror conformational chemical structural symmetry with respect to the centre of the molecule and exhibiting physiological activity, is particularly intriguing due to its potential for simulating biological processes and its implications ...
