Schizophrenia as a genetic polymorphism
The Psychiatric Quarterly, 1973Brief review of the literature reveals that the evidence for a genetic factor in the etiology of schizophrenia is convincing. The evidence suggests that a tendency toward development of the disease is inherited; its appearance and clinical features depend upon environmental and experiential factors.

The Theory of Genetic Polymorphism [PDF]
The work on Maniola jurtina described in the last two chapters aimed at analysing the evolution of polygenic characters in wild populations. It is necessary also to consider how those controlled by major genes can be used for similar evolutionary studies. This can in fact be done in all instances of genetic polymorphism.

J. M. Woof's Perspective “Tipping the scales toward more effective antibodies” (2 Dec. 2005, p. 1442) presents a good commentary on how Fcγ receptors (FcγR) could contribute to the observed variation in immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass responses to pathogens and tumor antigens.

Polymorphism and Genetic Programming
2001Types have been introduced to Genetic Programming (GP) by researchers with different motivation. We present the concept of types in GP and introduce a typed GP system, PolyGP, that supports polymorphism through the use of three different kinds of type variable. We demonstrate the usefulness of this kind of polymorphism in GP by evolving two polymorphic

Genetic Polymorphism and Neomutationism
1984In the last several decades neo-Darwinism, particularly the balance theory of evolution (Dobzhansky 1955), has remained a dominant force in evolutionary biology. In this theory natural selection plays the most important role in determining the extent of genetic polymorphism and the rate of evolution. Although mutation is regarded as the ultimate source

Genetics: cytokine polymorphisms
1999New anti-mediator strategies and their application in clinical trials of severe sepsis and septic shock [1, 3] have not changed the fact that severe systemic inflammation remains a major cause of death even in modern intensive care units. Cytokines play an important role as endogenous mediators of infectious, as well as non-infectious, causes of ...
