Molecular substances, as a rule, manifest themselves in more than one crystalline form. And it may happen that two members of a given family, under given conditions of temperature and pressure, do not adopt the same form. Polymorphism, for that matter, is a fascinating and at the same time complicated phenomenon.

Polymorphism of clarithromycin
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 2000It is well recognized that physicochemical properties of drugs are affected by the type of polymorphic crystalline form of drugs. Clarithromycin is known to exist in at least three polymorphic crystalline forms. Since conventional means to obtain the most thermodynamically stable form (Form II) for the antibiotics is known to be associated with a low ...

On the semantics of polymorphism
Acta Informatica, 1983A semantic characterization is given of the terms of a simple applicative language which it can be assigned a (monomorphic or polymorphic) type. Moreover a strong completeness result is proved for a (nontrivial) subset of terms (corresponding to the normal forms of a lambda-calculus plus constants). Completeness does not hold in general.

The title compound, 7,8-didehydro-4,5-epoxy-17-methylmorphinan-3,6-diyl diacetate, C21H23NO5, was crystallized from a solution of its hydrochloride and sodium acetate. Unlike prior reports in which crystals were hexagonal shaped (orthorhombic) and in space group P2(1)2(1)2(1), the crystals in the present determination grew as large prisms (monoclinic ...

Polymorphism is an important object-oriented programming concept in which objects from two or more different classes respond to the same set of messages. For instance, HourlyEmployee, SalariedEmployee, and ContractEmployee all respond to the message calculatePay().

Polymorphism of Spironolactone
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1991Single crystals of two polymorphic and four solvated crystalline forms of spironolactone (C24H32O4S) were obtained using different solvents. The morphology, symmetry, and crystallographic parameters were determined for all crystal forms except for the one obtained from methanol.

Lecithin–water systems display a variety of phases. Several of these phases, observed at a high temperature in the presence of small amounts of water, belong to a class of structures recently discovered in the anhydrous divalent cation-soaps. In these structures the polar groups are clustered in rod-shaped regions, embedded in a disordered paraffin ...

It is well known that for a single, autosomal locus with differential viabilities convergence to a stable equilibrium is assured. However if new alleles are introduced sequentially by mutation the final equilibrium may depend on the particular sequence. Thus the equilibrium to which the population moves will be randomly determined.

An evaluation of entropies and enthalpies of transition and fusion and a comparison of X-ray diffraction patterns and IR spectra of polymorphic forms of structurally related compounds were undertaken to obtain information which might prove useful in correlating the frequency of occurrence of polymorphism with certain aspects of chemical structure ...
