Some properties of planar polynomial systems of even degree
Annali Di Matematica Pura Ed Applicata, 1992Let \(\dot x=P(x,y)\), \(\dot y=Q(x,y)\) be a planar polynomial system and let \(n=\max(\deg(P),\deg(Q))\). The authors show that, if \(n\) is even, then this system must have at least one unbounded trajectory. This implies that the system can have no global centers, that is, singular points \(p\in\mathbb{R}^ 2\) such that \(\mathbb{R}^ 2-\{p\}\) is ...

Isochronous Centers in Planar Polynomial Systems
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1997The authors consider the following planar system \[ \dot x = P(x,y),\quad \dot y = Q(x,y),\qquad (x,y)\in \mathbb{R}^2 \tag{1} \] where \(P\) and \(Q\) are polynomials in \(x\) and \(y\). Let the system (1) have a center, and let \(T\) be a period-function, i.e.

A Certificate of Global Asymptotic Stability for Planar Polynomial Systems
2018 European Control Conference (ECC), 2018An algorithmic procedure is given for obtaining a certificate of global asymptotic stability for planar polynomial systems having the origin as equilibrium point. The procedure is not Lyapunov based and uses methods from Algebraic Geometry to study the sign of polynomial functions.
