Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Analytic solutions for iterative functional differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2012
Because of its technical difficulties the existence of analytic solutions to the iterative differential equation $x'(z)=x(az+bx(z)+c x'(z))$ is a source of open problems.

New Structured Matrix Methods for Real and Complex Polynomial Root-finding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We combine the known methods for univariate polynomial root-finding and for computations in the Frobenius matrix algebra with our novel techniques to advance numerical solution of a univariate polynomial equation, and in particular numerical ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Bus Scheduling as a Graph Coloring Problem

open access: yesCommunications, 2003
The fundamental vehicle-scheduling problem (VSP) is usually formulated as a matching problem for which there exists a polynomial algorithm. The formulation of VSP as a graph coloring problem may seem not to be practical since a graph coloring problem is ...

Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.

Approximate analytical solution of fractional-order generalized integro-differential equations via fractional derivative of shifted Vieta-Lucas polynomial

open access: yesJournal of Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences
In this paper, we extend fractional-order derivative for the shifted Vieta-Lucas polynomial to generalized-fractional integro-differential equations involving non-local boundary conditions using Galerkin method as transformation technique and obtained N

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Fibonacci-like Differential Equations with a Polynomial Non-Homogeneous Part [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
We investigate non-homogeneous linear differential equations of the form $x''(t) + x'(t) - x(t) = p(t)$ where $p(t)$ is either a polynomial or a factorial polynomial in $t$.
