Signaling pathways in the coral polyp bail-out response

open access: yesSignaling pathways in the coral polyp bail-out response
Polyp bail-out is a stress response exhibited by some pocilloporid corals, with mechanisms and consequences distinct from those of bleaching. Although induction of polyp bail-out has been demonstrated in the laboratory, molecular mechanisms underlying this response have rarely been discussed.

Bacterial Community Shifts during Polyp Bail-Out Induction in Pocillopora Corals

open access: yesBacterial Community Shifts during Polyp Bail-Out Induction in Pocillopora Corals
Polyp bail-out constitutes both a stress response and an asexual reproductive strategy that potentially facilitates dispersal of some scleractinian corals, including several dominant reef-building taxa in the family Pocilloporidae. Recent studies have proposed that microorganisms may be involved in onset and progression of polyp bail-out.
