Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) has been widely used to remove phosphorus (P) from wastewater. In this study we report a novel modification to the EBPR approach, namely enhanced biological phosphorus removal and recovery (EBPR-r) that facilitates biological recovery of P from wastewater using a post denitrification configuration.

[Capacity of denitrification by polyphosphate accumulating organism at different electron donors].
Huan jing ke xue= Huanjing kexue, 2009SBR reactor was performed to incubate polyphosphate accumulating organism (PAO), and it was checked out of the system by fluorescence in situ hybridization. As PAO is a kind of ordinary heterotrophic bacteria, it was excluded the ability of phosphate release and uptake and it was considered only the capacity of denitrification of the target biomass ...

Temperature is an important physical factor, which strongly influences biomass and metabolic activity. In this study, the effects of temperature on the anoxic metabolism of nitrite (NO2(-)) to nitrous oxide (N2O) by polyphosphate accumulating organisms, and the process of the accumulation of N2O (during nitrite reduction), which acts as an electron ...

Screening of Polyphosphate Accumulating Organisms and Their Phosphorus Removal Performance
[Objectives] To study the phosphorus removal performance of phosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs). [Methods] Activated sludge from domestic sewage treatment plant was used as the strain source, and phosphate accumulating organisms were screened by plate streaking method and dilution coating plate method.HONG, Miaoxuan +3 more

Bioresource Technology
Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) relies on polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs). This study identifies Propioniciclava as a novel putative PAO. High phosphorus release and uptake rates were achieved in two lab-scale Propioniciclava-dominated sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), reaching up to 2.37 and 2.10 mmolP/(gVSS·h), respectively.
