Polypropylene, as produced, does not possess properties normally attributed to a fiber-forming polymer. Despite a relatively low melting point, it is not stable below melt temperatures and will degrade in UV light at room temperature, unless stabilizers are added.

The thermomechanical processes that occur during thermal bonding of isotactic polypropylene are discussed. Each process is described and the magnitude of each effect estimated.
