Temporal and sleep stage‐dependent agreement in manual scoring of respiratory events

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 3, June 2025.
Summary Obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis is based on the manual scoring of respiratory events. The agreement in the manual scoring of the respiratory events lacks an in‐depth investigation as most of the previous studies reported only the apnea–hypopnea index or overall agreement, and not temporal, second‐by‐second or event subtype agreement.

Spectral EEG and heart rate changes associated with leg movements during the suggested immobilization test in patients with restless legs syndrome

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 3, June 2025.
Summary Restless legs syndrome is usually associated with periodic limb movements during sleep, which are defined as repetitive, stereotyped movements in sleep. Changes in spectral analysis of electroencephalography and heart rate were shown to be associated with periodic limb movements during sleep and non‐periodic leg movements in sleep.

Impact of the visceral adipose tissue on bone quality in patients with untreated mild‐to‐severe obstructive sleep apnea

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) predominantly affects patients who are obese and causes systemic organ damage. Little is known about the relationship between fat distribution and bone impairment in these patients. We aimed to evaluate the impact of the visceral adipose tissue (VAT) on the bone quality of patients with OSA.

Auditory stimulation during deep sleep enhances total slow‐wave activity in a young cohort: A feasibility trial

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Cognitive, metabolic and sleep benefits associated with enhancement of sleep slow waves using closed‐loop auditory stimulation have been reported in adults but not in adolescents, especially in home settings. Seventeen volunteers (10F/7M; age range: 13–18 years old) participated in a 2‐week, single‐blind, crossover study.

Corticosteroid‐responsive narcolepsy type II after COVID‐19: A relevant differential diagnosis of post‐COVID syndrome (a case report)

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Excessive daytime sleepiness is a possible symptom of post‐COVID syndrome and is also the cardinal symptom of narcolepsy, a rare life‐long sleep disorder with a possible autoimmune background. Recent reports indicate that COVID‐19 infection may trigger narcolepsy. However, it remains unclear how best to identify and treat such cases.

Poor sleep quality is a risk factor for adverse clinical outcomes in patients with acute aortic dissection: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary The decrease in sleep quality leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and is closely related to the prognosis of various diseases. However, the relationship between preoperative sleep quality and postoperative clinical outcomes in patients with acute aortic dissection is still unclear.
