Hierarchical multiscale modeling of polymer-solid interfaces: atomistic to coarse-grained description, and structural and conformational properties of polystyrene-gold systems [PDF]
A hierarchical simulation approach was developed in order to study polystyrene films sandwiched between two parallel Au(111) surfaces. The coarse-grained potentials describing the interaction of polystyrene with the gold surface were developed ...

Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Síntese e caracterização de nanocompósitos de poliestireno/hidroxissal lamelar
Polystyrene/layered hydroxide salt (LHS) modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate was synthesized by in situ polymerization. The materials synthesized were characterized by gravimetry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry analyses (TGA), differential ...

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Styrenic Nanocomposites Prepared using a Novel Biphenyl-Containing Clay [PDF]
Montmorillonite was organically modified using an ammonium salt containing 4-acetylbiphenyl. This clay (BPNC16 clay) was used to prepare polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) nanocomposites ...

Competitive adsorption of plasma proteins at solid—liquid interfaces [PDF]
The competitive adsorption of human serum albumin (HSA), human immuno-γ-globulin (HIgG) and human fibrinogen (HFb) onto polystyrene (PS) at 20° C and a pH of 7.35 (phosphate-buffered saline) was studied.

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Synergy between conventional phosphorus fire retardants and organically-modified clays can lead to fire retardancy of styrenics [PDF]
Polystyrene–clay nanocomposites combined with phosphorous-containing fire retardants have been prepared and used to explore the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the polymer formed. The amounts of fire retardants and clay used were varied to

Herein presented supraparticles combine the nanoparticulate photocatalyst graphitic carbon nitride with the enzyme horseradish peroxidase, which is immobilized on silica nanoparticles. In an optimized compatibility range, both catalysts operate effectively within the hybrid supraparticles and catalyze a cascade reaction consisting of the photocatalytic
