Darkfield scattering spectroscopic microscopy evaluation using polystyrene beads
SPIE Proceedings, 2009Diameters of single polystyrene beads were determined within ∼10 nm accuracy by comparing Mie theory oscillations and wavelength resolved measurements. The setup is realized with an axicon supported reflected darkfield microscope and is herein presented in detail.

Mechanical properties of glass bead filled polystyrene composites
Composites, 1981Abstract The mechanical behaviour of polystyrene composites containing various percentages of glass microspheres has been investigated over a wide range of temperature. The effect of filler concentration on the elastic and ultimate tensile strength of the composites is reported.

Swelling of cross-linked polystyrene beads in toluene
Microelectronic Engineering, 2008Ultraviolet light irradiation of PS microbeads can be used for controlling the solvent uptake and release upon exposure to its vapor. The irradiation leads to additional fracture and crosslinking of PS chains thus reducing the amount of solvent uptake significantly.

Impacts of Hemispherical Strikers on Polystyrene Bead Foam
Journal of Cellular Plastics, 1999Polystyrene bead foam mouldings were impacted with a hemispherical striker of radius equal to the moulding thickness. Localised densification was observed below the contact area. A number of annular cracks initiated at bead boundaries at the moulding surface; the inner one grew most and limited load spreading.

Floating Polystyrene Beads as Insulation for Cryogenic Fluids
1961This paper presents a quantitative description of a floating insulation for the surfaces of cryogenic fluids stored in open-topped dewar flasks. The technique makes use of polystyrene beads, which provide good thermal insulation, conform to a complex surface geometry—such as partially immersed equipment—and act as a good electrical insulator as well ...

Platelet retention by albuminated glass and polystyrene beads.
Journal of bioengineering, 1978Ex vivo platelet retention by albuminated glass and polystyrene beads has been evaluated as a function of flow rate, bead surface area, blood exposure time and albumin treatment. The stability of the albumin coatings as well as scanning electron microscopy of the various surfaces before and after blood exposure has also been included.
