Sulfonation and amination of polysulfone (PSf) were performed in this study to improve the hydrophilicity of PSf membranes. The sulfonated polysulfone (SPSf) and aminated polysulfone (APSf) membranes with a higher degree of reaction exhibited a higher water flux and worse mechanical strength than that of the original PSf membranes.

Performance of polysulfone/carboxylated polysulfone membranes
Polymer International, 1994AbstractMembranes were made from miscible blends of polysulfone (PSf) and carboxylated polysulfone (CPSf) having an average of 0.45 and 0.87 COOH groups per repeated unit. Membranes made from PSf and CPSf alone showed low separation for NaCl, glucose, polyethylene glycol (PEG) of various molecular weights and bovine albumin, from aqueous solutions ...

Polysulfone is a thermoplastic compound first synthesized in 1965. A unique characteristic of polysulfone is its high refractive index (1.633), which allows very thin optical lenses to be manufactured. Over the last five years, D. Peter Choyce has surgically implanted over 40 polysulfone lenses into eyes of his patients.

Chemically Modified Polysulfones and Their Properties
Polymer Science, Series D, 2021The review of works including works by the authors, concerning aromatic polysulfones chemically-modified on the main macrochain is presented. Methods of synthesis of copolymers and block-copolymers with increased heat-resistance by the use of new original compounds are described.

Miscibility and enthalpy relaxations in polysulfone—Carboxylated polysulfone blends
Polymer International, 1993AbstractPhase behavior in polysulfone‐carboxylated polysulfone (PSf‐CPSf) blends was studied by glass transition observations in conjunction with enthalpy relaxation technique. Miscibility in all proportions was detected in blends where CPSf has a degree of carboxylation (DC, i.e. number of carboxyl groups per repeat unit) less than about 1.3.

Abstract The viscosity‐shear rate functions for polysulfone (PSF) condensates ranging from 0.4RV to 0.95RV were determined using capillary rheometry, The most probable distribution of molecular weights of these resins allowed facile comparison with the polydisperse Bueche theory for viscosity, The agreement in ...

Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 1992
Abstract Fluorination of aromatic polysulfone film was achieved by treatment with XeF2 vapors. Swelling tests in certain industrial liquids and fuels showed substantial decrease in swelling of the fluorinated films. The influence of a catalyst on the fluorination process was examined.

Modified Polysulfones. I. Synthesis and Characterization of Polysulfones with Unsaturated end Groups
Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part A, 1994Abstract Chloro-terminated polysulfones with various molecular weights were modified with poly(ethylene oxide) and poly[(ethylene oxide)-(propylene oxide)] macromers carrying α-hydroxyl and ω-allyl end groups via classical polycondensation reactions.

Crystallization in Polyamide 6/Polysulfone Blends: Effect of Polysulfone Particle Size
Macromolecules, 1998By reactive blending of polyamide 6 (PA) with polysulfone (PSU) using a gram-scale mixer (Mini-Max Molder), we prepared a series of PA/PSU (80/20 wt.ratio) with various diameters of PSU particles: 90 nm by using phthalic anhydride-terminated PSU (PSU-PhAH), 0.2 µm by carboxylic acid-grafted PSU (PSU-COOH), and 1.0 µm by nonreactive PSU (nf-PSU ...
