Filled polymers for bearings and seals used in liquid hydrogen [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Filled polytrifluorochloroethylene /PTFCE/ shows better thermal stability, less creep, and higher compressive moduli than filled polytetrafluoroethylene /PTFE/.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Preparation of perfluoropolyether prepolymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Fluorinated prepolymers are used to generate highly fluorinated polymers which possess most of the desirable properties of polytetrafluoroethylene, such as nonflammability and high corrosion resistance, while retaining good low temperature ...

Immediate access arteriovenous grafts versus tunnelled central venous catheters: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Autologous arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) are the optimal form of vascular access for haemodialysis. AVFs typically require 6 to 8 weeks to “mature” from the time of surgery before they can be cannulated.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Oxidation protection coatings for polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A polymeric substrate is coated with a metal oxide film to provide oxidation protection in low Earth orbital environments. The film contains about 4 volume percent polymer to provide flexibility. A coil of polymer material moves through an ion beam as it

Self‐supportive Three‐Way Photoelectrochemical System Achieving Uranium Recycling, Organic Oxidation, and Electricity Generation in Complex Waters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐sustaining solar photoelectrochemical cell (SS‐PEC) is developed to recover uranium from aqueous UO22+ with concurrent organic oxidation and electricity production. The monolithical photoanode directly captures electrons from organic compounds, leading to the oxidation of organic compounds and the decomposition of uranium‐organic complexes ...

Triboelectrification-Induced Large Electric Power Generation from a Single Moving Droplet on Graphene/Polytetrafluoroethylene.

open access: yesACS Nano, 2016
Recently, several reports have demonstrated that a moving droplet of seawater or ionic solution over monolayer graphene produces an electric power of about 19 nW, and this has been suggested to be a result of the pseudocapacitive effect between graphene ...
