Extraction fractionation of polyvinyl acetate and of polyvinyl alcohol
Journal of Polymer Science, 1959AbstractMethods for rapid fractionation of polyvinyl acetate and of polyvinyl alcohol are described. By a slightly modified Fuchs' extraction technique, polyvinyl acetate can be fractionated into relatively homogeneous fractions. The ratio of osmotically determined M̄n of the nonfractionated sample to that calculated from fractionation data is 1.19 ...

Mineralization of radiation‐crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol/polyvinyl pyrrolidone hydrogels
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2007AbstractA study of the calcification of the polyvinyl alcohol/polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVA/PVP) hydrogels during their exposure to a calcium chloride solution or a simulated body fluid has been carried out. On the basis of the experiments, using a two‐compartment permeation cell, the diffusion of calcium ions and their subsequent deposition in the ...

The reaction of polyvinyl alcohol with montmorillonite
Soil Research, 1964The interaction of montmorillonite with low concentrations (1-5 %) of completely hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been investigated. As there was no release of cations from the clay on adding PVA it is concluded that the exchangeable cations, in particular divalent cations, are not directly involved in the bonding of PVA to montmorillonite.

Acetalization of polyvinyl alcohol with furfural
European Polymer Journal, 1997The condensation reaction of 2-furaldehyde (Fu) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) to give the corresponding acetal was studied in detail. In order to assess in a satisfactory manner the ensuing modified polymers in quantitative terms, a model reaction involving Fu and pentaerythritol was investigated and the bis-acetal obtained submitted to a thorough ...

Synthesis of esters of polyvinyl alcohol
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 19551. The syntheses have been effected of esters of polyvinyl alcohol with the following acids: formic, acetic, procionic, butyric, and isobutyric (the last three have not been described previously). The degree of substitution varied from 100 to 30 mole-%(to 10m mole-% in the case of polyvinyl formate). 2. The preparation of these polyvinyl

Polyvinyl Alcohol Melt Processing
Journal of Elastomers & Plastics, 2007The melt processing behavior of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) acquired by polyvinyl acetate solution and suspension hydrolysis is studied. It is found that the PVOH obtained by suspension hydrolysis is much more suitable for melt processing because of the shape and size of the particles and of the chemical and morphological homogeneity.
