Polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinyl alcohol/ polyvinyl pyrrolidone biomedical foams crosslinked by gamma irradiation

Journal of Cellular Plastics, 2016
Foams for biomedical applications were made from polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl alcohol / polyvinyl pyrrolidone blend and their nanocomposites with nanoclay by clean processes. Air was entrapped into the aqueous polymer solutions during vigorous mixing and then the solutions were freeze-dried. The foams structure was stabilized by crosslinking via gamma

Diethylphosphonacetals of polyvinyl alcohol

Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1970
THE production of linear phosphorus-containing polymers of high mol.wt, is known to "be difficult [1]. Polymer-analogue reactions are quite promising for this purpose, but only where mild conditions are used, and where the reaction does not result in secondary products. These rquirements are met by the acetalation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).

Kinetics of acetalization of polyvinyl alcohol and of hydrolysis of acetalized polyvinyl alcohol

Acetalization of Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber with Aldehyde-containing Polyvinyl Alcohol Fiber

Russian Journal of Applied Chemistry, 2001
A procedure is proposed for preparing polyvinyl alcohol fiber with increased water absorption by acetalization of a freshly formed fiber with dialdehyde-containing polyvinyl alcohol fiber. The fiber characteristics were determined in relation to the acetalization conditions.

Polyvinyl Alcohol Hydrogels

2019
White matter in the brain is anisotropic, which means it has directionally dependent properties, and has a stiffness of 1-3 KPa. The objective of this project was to create PVA that mimicked these properties well. A hydrogel that mimicked the properties of the brain was to be created and the process had to be easily replicable.
