Electrochemical method for the determination of arsenic 'in the field' using screen-printed grid electrodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This project describes development and problem solving efforts to realise a viable portable sensor for arsenic, applicable to drinking water. The work is the first dedicated effort towards this goal, after the preliminary investigations previously ...

Antioxidant and Anti‐Senescence Polyvinyl Alcohol‐Gallic Acid Supramolecular Hydrogels for Stem Cell Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The PVA‐GA hydrogel is formed through hydrogen bonding between PVA hydroxyl groups and GA galloyl units, enabling sustainable GA release and its extended biological activity. The hydrogel scavenges ROS to reduce oxidative stress, preventing mitochondrial damage from excessive ROS, mitigating hADSC senescence, and preserving VEGF secretion, offering a ...

Using Polyvinyl Alcohol as Polymeric Adhesive to Enhance the Water Stability of Soil and its Performance [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Soil degradation threatens agricultural productivity and food supply, leading to hunger issues in some developing regions. To address this challenge, we developed a low-cost, highly efficient, and long-term stable soil improvement method. We chose polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a commercially available polymer that is safe and non-degradable, to serve as a ...

Liquid Crystalline Networks Hamper the Malignancy of Cancer Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Liquid Crystalline Networks are used as scaffolds for the growth of A375 melanoma cells demonstrating to affect their malignancy. Indeed, only by contact, these materials reduces cell proliferation and colony formation capacity, while increasing the number of senescent cells and promoting the mesenchymal to epithelial transition.

One step growth of PVP spheres embedded with nearly monodispersive CdS nanocrystals using chemical bath deposition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We have used simple chemical bath deposition technique to grow nearly monodispersive CdS nanocrystals in PVP matrix. Systematic study of variation of growth parameters has revealed that optimized growth of CdS nanocrystals in PVP matrix depends on relative concentration of Cd acetate/Thiourea to polyvinyl pyrrolidone in the bath.

Gasotransmitters in Modern Medicine: Promises and Challenges in the Use of Porous Crystalline Carriers

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective provides an overview of the growing interest in utilizing various gasotransmitters—small gaseous signaling molecules namely nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S)—for several therapeutic applications, with emphasis on the potential use of porous materials as carriers to provide safe and controlled local ...

Optical properties of Ag-doped polyvinyl alcohol nanocomposites: a statistical analysis of the film thickness effect on the resonance parameters [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Nanocomposites made of polymer films embedding silver nanoparticles were prepared by thermal annealing of poly-(vinyl) alcohol films containing AgNO3. Low (2.5% w:w) and high (25% w:w) doping concentration of silver nitrate were considered as well as their effect on the optical properties of thin (30 nm) and thick (300 nm and more) films.

High‐Throughput Encapsulation of Stem Cells: Characterizing Dynamic Culture Variability With a Millifluidic Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A high throughput millifluidic encapsulation platform is engineered and standardized. The system's output allows the monitoring of cell expansion in strong dynamic conditions. High polymer crosslinking leads to higher cell proliferation and lower cell growth on microgel's surface.
