Avaliação da toxicidade aguda, efeitos citotóxico e espasmolítico de Pomacea lineata (Spix, 1827) (Mollusca, Caenogastropoda) [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Farmacognosia, 2007
Pomacea sp. and its eggs are used against diarrhea and respiratory diseases in folk medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate acute toxicity, cytotoxic and spasmolytic activity of lyophilized Pomacea lineata and its eggs. P. lineata and its eggs present no acute toxicity (until 2 g/kg p.o.) or cytotoxic effect (until 1 mg/mL). P.

Structural elucidation of an acidic galactan from the eggs of mollusc Pomacea lineata

open access: yesCarbohydrate Polymers, 2010
Abstract A polysaccharide fraction containing acidic galactan (AG) was obtained from eggs of the mollusc Pomacea lineata by precipitation with acetone. Its structure was investigated using a combination of chemical analysis, intrinsic viscosity and NMR spectroscopy methods, including 1D and 2D, COSY, TOCSY and HSQC experiments.

Assessment of the socio‐economic impacts associated with the arrival of apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) in Mwea irrigation scheme, Kenya

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 79, Issue 11, Page 4343-4356, November 2023., 2023
Rice production in Mwea irrigation scheme, Kenya is being threatened by the invasive freshwater snail, Pomacea canaliculata (Lamarck) (Ampullariidae). The cost of hired labor for physical removal of egg masses and adult snails is resulting in substantial negative effects on net income. Strategies to manage snail spread are urgently needed.
