First publications of successful Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of tobacco were published more than 30 years ago. Protocols for Agrobacterium-based transformation as well as biolistic bombardment and PEG transformation of protoplasts are available for more than 150 plant species from various plant families.

Interspecific hybridisation in poplar
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1976Interspecific compatibility and incompatibility have been examined through the genus Populus. Assiniboine poplar is a male clone which is suitable for farmstead shelterbelt planting on the Canadian prairies. The poplar has superior hardiness, and is relatively fast growing. Poplar Tent-Maker Control on Poplar, 1978
Insecticide and Acaricide Tests, 1979Abstract A research block of poplars, hybrid Androscoggin, 3-5m high was used for insecticide evaluation. Larvae of the poplar tent-maker were defoliating the trees. Spray applications were made to the portions of the tree where active larvae were congregating within folded leaves.

Populus × canescens ’Tower’ combines qualities of improved root-ability and foliage found in the female parent, P. alba L., with hardiness and columnar growth form of its male parent, P. tremula L. ’Erecta’. The distinctly columnar growth form makes the tree useful for landscape and shelterbelt applications.
