Fast simulation of large-scale growth models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We give an algorithm that computes the final state of certain growth models without computing all intermediate states. Our technique is based on a "least action principle" which characterizes the odometer function of the growth process.

Popping characteristics of paddy using microwave energy and optimization of process parameters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Studies, 2014
Microwave popping characteristics of a particular variety of paddy were studied using a domestic microwave oven. The experiments were carried out at 4 levels of moisture content (around 13%, 14%, 15% and 16% wb), 3 levels of power (600 W, 850 W and 1000 ...

Effect of Popcorn (Zea mays var. everta) Popping Mode (Microwave, Hot Oil, and Hot Air) on Fumonisins and Deoxynivalenol Contamination Levels

open access: yesToxins, 2021
Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites that are produced by molds during their development. According to fungal physiological particularities, mycotoxins can contaminate crops before harvest or during storage.

Bayesian analysis of quantitative traits in popcorn (Zea mays L.) through four cycles of recurrent selection

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2016
A Bayesian analysis of genetic parameters for quantitative traits was carried out in full-sib families of popcorn through four cycles (C5, C6, C7, and C8) of recurrent selection.

Nutritional composition and popping characteristics of some selected varieties of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum)

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2018
A comparative study carried out on nutritional and popping qualities of 11 cultivars of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) varieties have showed significant difference in popping yield, with highest mean popping yield of 73.6 %.

Vacancy localization in the square dimer model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We study the classical dimer model on a square lattice with a single vacancy by developing a graph-theoretic classification of the set of all configurations which extends the spanning tree formulation of close-packed dimers.

GENETIC GAINS AND SELECTION ADVANCES OF THE UENF-14 POPCORN POPULATION1

open access: yesRevista Caatinga, 2018
Recurrent selection can generate successive gains for characters of economic interest without causing genetic narrowing in the population. However, it has rarely been used in breeding programs in popcorn, especially when using full-sibling progenies to ...

To “Sketch-a-Scratch” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A surface can be harsh and raspy, or smooth and silky, and everything in between. We are used to sense these features with our fingertips as well as with our eyes and ears: the exploration of a surface is a multisensory experience.

Increasing the Size of a Piece of Popcorn

open access: yes, 2004
Popcorn is an extremely popular snack food in the world today. Thermodynamics can be used to analyze how popcorn is produced. By treating the popping mechanism of the corn as a thermodynamic expansion, a method of increasing the volume or size of a ...
