A dynamical trichotomy for structured populations experiencing positive density-dependence in stochastic environments [PDF]
Positive density-dependence occurs when individuals experience increased survivorship, growth, or reproduction with increased population densities. Mechanisms leading to these positive relationships include mate limitation, saturating predation risk, and cooperative breeding and foraging. Individuals within these populations may differ in age, size, or

In the process of captive breeding and reintroduction of endangered animal species, it is crucial to minimize familial bias in reproductive success during the reintroduction phase to preserve genetic diversity. In this study, we attempted to identify the familial lineage of individuals of the endangered bagrid fish Tachysurus ichikawai born at the ...

Estimation of potential health demands from changes in population dynamics in Paraguay [PDF]
This paper analyzes the demographic changes with the health status of the population in order to estimate the potential demands on health from the transformations in the population predictable until the year 2025.

Tailored inference for finite populations: conditional validity and transfer across distributions [PDF]
Parameters of sub-populations can be more relevant than super-population ones. For example, a healthcare provider may be interested in the effect of a treatment plan for a specific subset of their patients; policymakers may be concerned with the impact of a policy in a particular state within a given population.

On the Three Properties of Stationary Populations and knotting with Non-Stationary Populations [PDF]
A population is considered stationary if the growth rate is zero and the age structure is constant. It thus follows that a population is considered non-stationary if either its growth rate is non-zero and/or its age structure is non-constant. We propose three properties that are related to the stationary population identity (SPI) of population biology ...

Population and Regulation [PDF]
We present a model of efficient regulation along the lines of Demsetz (1967). In this model, setting up and running regulatory institutions takes a fixed cost, and therefore jurisdictions with larger populations affected by a given regulation are more likely to have them. Consistent with the model, we find that higher population U.S.

In this article, we tested optimal SNP filtering strategies for accurate parentage assignment and pedigree reconstruction for a wild population of red‐spotted masu salmon, Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae. We found that mid‐point filtering in terms of call rate and minor allele frequency performs well for pedigree reconstruction.

The essay considers populism in the present moment in relation to Black Lives Matter as a popular protest movement. Popular protest movements demand that government change; populism in the present moment seeks to act extra-governmentally, and to this end relies on violence in the face of peace protest movement.
