A Crowding Index for Finite Populations
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1990The classical definition of population density used in social science disciplines as a measure of density or physical crowding has severe shortcomings since actual spatial orientation is disregarded. A formula is proposed to measure physical crowding or population density which corrects the deficiency of the conventional formulation.

Index for Measurement of Synchronization of Cell Populations
Science, 1962An index for the estimation of synchronization in a microbial population is proposed and discussed. The index is equal to the fraction of cells that divide during a measured interval in excess of the fraction that would divide during random growth in the same interval.

Y/E Index in a Swedish Population
Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae, 1971SummaryThe Y/E index (Y/16-18 chromosomes) has been studied in a Swedish population of 74 men. The following results have been obtained: M = 0.734 ± 0.0238 with a range from 0.57 to 0.90. The values agree well with those of a Finnish population previously described. The use of the Y/E index in 15 paternity cases is exemplified.
