Monte Carlo approach to tissue-cell populations
Physical Review E, 1995We describe a stochastic dynamics of tissue cells with special emphasis on epithelial cells and fibro- blasts and fibrocytes of the connective tissue. Pattern formation and growth characteristics of such cell populations in culture are investigated numerically by Monte Carlo simulations for quasi-two-dimensional systems of cells.

STOCHASTIC MODELING WITH MONTE CARLO OF OBESITY POPULATION
Journal of Biological Systems, 2010In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a mathematical model of obesity population within fluctuating social environment. A stochastic differential equation model is constructed by perturbing two social related parameters of the deterministic model with white noise terms characterized by Gaussian distribution having zero mean and unit spectral ...

Monte Carlo simulation and population-based optimization
Proceedings of the 2001 Congress on Evolutionary Computation (IEEE Cat. No.01TH8546), 2002This paper briefly reviews some properties of Monte Carlo simulation and emphasizes the link to evolutionary computation. It shows how this connection can help to study evolutionary algorithms within a unified framework. It also gives some practical examples of implementation inspired from MOSES (the mutation-or-selection evolution strategy).

Monte Carlo simulation of microbial population growth
Mathematical Biosciences, 1976Abstract Mathematical models of cell populations which recognize them to be segregated into individual cells differing from one another in state and behavior lead to complicated integro-differential equations. Analysis of fluctuations in small populations leads to the even more complex situation of coupled integro-differential equations.

Statistical power in two-level models: A tutorial based on Monte Carlo simulation.
Psychological methods, 2019The estimation of power in two-level models used to analyze data that are hierarchically structured is particularly complex because the outcome contains variance at two levels that is regressed on predictors at two levels.

Forecasting the German population with Monte Carlo methods
Economics Letters, 1986"This paper presents an approach of constructing confidence intervals by means of Monte Carlo simulation. This technique attempts to incorporate the uncertainty involved in projecting the [West] German population by letting the fertility, mortality and net immigration rates vary as a random variable with a specific distribution.

Bayesian DOA estimation method using Population Monte Carlo
2012 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communication and Computing (ICSPCC 2012), 2012Bayesian maximum a posteriori (BMAP) DOA estimation method has a better performance than MUSIC method at low signal to noise ratio (SNR) and few snapshots. However, it suffers a heavy computational complexity due to multi-dimensional search. Monte Carlo methods such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method can effectively solve this problem.

Compartmental Population Balances by Means of Monte Carlo Methods
2020Stochastic simulation techniques for the solution of a network of population balance equations (PBE) are discussed in this chapter. The application of weighted Monte Carlo (MC) particles for the solution of compartmental PBE systems is summarized and its computational efficacy in form of a parallel GPU implementation is pointed out. Solution strategies

Population Forecasting Model Based on Monte Carlo Algorithm
Proceedings of the 2018 International Conference on Computing and Data Engineering, 2018The "two-child" policy has been implemented in China since 2016, and it was an important fertility policy adjustment made by the government, which would have an significant impact on the future population structure of China. This research studies the effect of the "two-child" policy on China's population size and structure by utilizing the Monte Carlo ...
