Hrdlička’s Aleutian Population‐Replacement Hypothesis
In a 1945 monograph, Hrdlika argued that, at 1,000 BP, PaleoAleut people on Umnak Island were replaced by NeoAleut groups moving west along the island chain. His argument was based on cranial measurements of skeletal remains from Chaluka Midden and mummified remains from Kagamil and Ship Rock burial caves.

Awareness about total knee replacement among Saudi population
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge of the general population about knee osteoarthritis and its surgical interventions in the management of knee osteoarthritis. Knee osteoarthritis is a prevalent disease.

Inverse Medea as a Novel Gene Drive System for Local Population Replacement: A Theoretical Analysis [PDF]
One strategy to control mosquito-borne diseases, such as malaria and dengue fever, on a regional scale is to use gene drive systems to spread disease-refractory genes into wild mosquito populations.

Is half the world's population really below 'replacement-rate'?
A perennial activity of demographers is to estimate the percentage of the world's population which is above or below the 'replacement rate of fertility' [RRF].

Visceral leishmaniasis is an important global health problem with an estimated of 50,000 to 90,000 new cases per year. VL is the most serious form of leishmaniasis as it can be fatal in 95% of the cases if it remains untreated. VL is a particularly acute

Threshold dynamics of a stochastic mathematical model for Wolbachia infections
A stochastic mathematical model is proposed to study how environmental heterogeneity and the augmentation of mosquitoes with [Formula: see text] bacteria affect the outcomes of dengue disease. The existence and uniqueness of the positive solutions of the

Background Gene drives are a genetic engineering method where a suite of genes is inherited at higher than Mendelian rates and has been proposed as a promising new vector control strategy to reinvigorate the fight against malaria in sub-Saharan Africa ...

Optimization of spatial control strategies for population replacement, application to Wolbachia [PDF]
In this article, we are interested in the analysis and simulation of solutions to an optimal control problem motivated by population dynamics issues.

As gene drive mosquito projects advance from contained laboratory testing to semi-field testing and small-scale field trials, there is a need to assess monitoring requirements to: i) assist with the effective introduction of the gene drive system at ...
