On the air permeability of Populus pit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Sap hydrodynamics in vascular cells of trees seems to be controlled by small membranes called pits. Understanding how the pit junctions regulate the sap flow and stop embolism by cavitation is today a challenging issue.

The transcriptome of Populus in elevated CO2 reveals increased anthocyanin biosynthesis during delayed autumnal senescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The delay in autumnal senescence that has occurred in recent decades has been linked to rising temperatures. Here, we suggest that increasing atmospheric CO2 may partly account for delayed autumnal senescence and for the first time, through transcriptome

The ecological adaptability of dominant poplar species to alpine environments in the Yarlung Zangbo River Basin

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2023
Afforestation in the Yarlung Zangbo River Basin is of great importance for improving water and soil conservation and improving the ecological environment. Populus × beijingensis and P. alba are the main species used for plantation in the basin.

Rapidly evolving genes and stress adaptation of two desert poplars, Populus euphratica and P. pruinosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Understanding which genes have evolved rapidly with the recent tree speciation in arid habitats can provide valuable insights into different adaptation mechanisms. We employed a comparative evolutionary analysis of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from two

The Influence of a Thermal Treatment on the Decay Resistance of Wood via FTIR Analysis

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
The decay resistance of wood can be improved via a vacuum heat treatment. The amount of nutrients from cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin and amount of sugars needed by the fungi during their growth were investigated. The results showed that the absorbance peaks corresponding to absorbed CH3‐CH2‐, C=O, and the benzene ring skeleton stretching ...

Galling Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) in China: Diversity and Host Specificity

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Gall formation is an interesting plant response to aphid feeding. This paper presents a review of galling aphids in China. Altogether, 157 species and subspecies in ten families and subfamilies are found to induce galls on their host plants. As many as 39% species are endemic to China.
