Porcine circovirus diseases

Animal Health Research Reviews, 2005
AbstractPorcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a member of the familyCircoviridae, a recently established virus family composed of small, non-enveloped viruses, with a circular, single-stranded DNA genome. PCV2, which is found all over the world in the domestic pig and probably the wild boar, has been recently associated with a number of disease syndromes,

Transcription Analysis of Porcine Circovirus (PCV)

Virus Genes, 1998
This study focuses on gene expression of porcine circovirus (PCV) in order to identify viral genes and their corresponding mRNA transcripts. By northern blot analysis, the existence of three mRNAs could be demonstrated. Two mRNAs are encoded by the viral (-)-strand and one is encoded by the viral (+)-strand.

Identification of porcine circovirus-3 in Mozambique

Veterinary Research Communications, 2021
Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV-3) has been associated with an assortment of clinical conditions in pigs and has been reported in many countries worldwide. In Africa there is no data on the presence of PCV-3. In this study, DNA samples collected from 91 pigs between 2011 and 2019 in nine of the ten provinces of Mozambique in the context of African swine ...

Porcine Circovirus

Veterinary Pathology, 2014
Porcine circoviruses (PCVs) belong to the genus Circovirus and the family Circoviridae, and they are the smallest known viruses that replicate autonomously in mammalian cells. They are nonenveloped, and they have characteristic single-stranded, negative-sense, circular DNA. Two types of divergent PCVs are recognized: PCV1 and PCV2. About 20 years ago,

Porcine circovirus type 3 in the UK

Veterinary Record, 2017
Circoviruses are circular, single-stranded DNA viruses and the smallest known autonomously replicating viruses.1 Two species of circovirus are known to infect pigs: porcine circovirus type 1 (PCV1) – which has not been associated with clinical disease – and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), which was first isolated and characterised in the late 1990s ...

Association of porcine circovirus 2 with porcine respiratory disease complex

The Veterinary Journal, 2003
A retrospective study was performed on natural cases of porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) to determine the association and prevalence of PRDC with porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) and other co-existing pathogens in Korea. Histologically, alveolar septa were markedly thickened by infiltrates of mononuclear cells.

Kinetics of porcine circovirus type 2 replication

Archives of Virology, 2002
The kinetics of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) replication in PK15 cells was examined. During productive infection, viral antigens, RNA transcripts and progeny viruses all increased in a time dependent manner. Viral antigens were observed in a few cells at 18 hour postinfection (h p.i.) and cell-free progeny viruses began to appear at about 30 h p.i.
