Emergence of a new type of porcine circovirus in swine (PCV): A type 1 and type 2 PCV recombinant [PDF]
In late September 2008, tissue samples from piglets experiencing an acute outbreak of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) were submitted to the Veterinary diagnostic service of the University of Montreal. Several diagnostic assays were performed including a multiplex real-time quantitative PCR assay (mrtqPCR) for the detection and ...

Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV‐3) as a causal agent of disease in swine and a proposal of PCV‐3 associated disease case definition [PDF]
Porcine circovirus 3 (PCV-3) was discovered in 2015 using next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods. Since then, the virus has been detected worldwide in pigs displaying several clinical-pathological outcomes as well as in healthy animals. The objective of this review is to critically discuss the evidence existing so far regarding PCV-3 as a swine ...

Genotyping of Porcine Circovirus 2 (PCV-2) in Vaccinated Pigs Suffering from PCV-2-Systemic Disease between 2009 and 2020 in Spain [PDF]
Vaccination against porcine circovirus 2 (PCV-2) is a common practice all over the world. Vaccines can prevent PCV-2-systemic disease (PCV-2-SD) outbreaks but not PCV-2 infection, which can be detectable in a percentage of vaccinated animals. Occasionally, PCV-2-SD is diagnosed in vaccinated farms.

Investigations were performed to characterize porcine circovirus (PCV) 2 infection in 10 week old pigs from a case of apparent vaccine failure. Thirty serum samples were collected from affected or non-affected pigs and tested for anti-PCV2 antibodies and PCV2 DNA.

Transcription Analysis of Porcine Circovirus (PCV)
Virus Genes, 1998This study focuses on gene expression of porcine circovirus (PCV) in order to identify viral genes and their corresponding mRNA transcripts. By northern blot analysis, the existence of three mRNAs could be demonstrated. Two mRNAs are encoded by the viral (-)-strand and one is encoded by the viral (+)-strand.

Genotypic shift of porcine circovirus type 2 from PCV-2a to PCV-2b in Spain from 1985 to 2008
Veterinary Journal, 2011Changes in porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) genotypes were evaluated before, during and after outbreaks of post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) in (1) a retrospective study using pig sera collected in Spain from 1985 to 2008 and (2) a longitudinal study using pig sera collected from two farms in Spain over periods of 7 and 14 years.

A multiplex nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was developed for the detection of and differentiation between porcine circovirus (PCV)-1 and PCV-2 in boar semen. Eighteen (30%) and 30 (50%) out of 60 whole semen samples were found to be positive for PCV using multiplex conventional PCR and multiplex nested PCR, respectively.
