An Investigation of the Pathology and Pathogens Associated with Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex in Denmark

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Pathology, 2010
Respiratory infections are among the most important diseases of growing pigs. In order to elucidate the multifactorial aetiology of porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) in Denmark, lungs from 148 finishing pigs with cranioventral bronchopneumonia (case group) and 60 pigs without lung lesions (control group) were collected from abattoirs.

Emergence of swine influenza A virus, porcine respirovirus 1 and swine orthopneumovirus in porcine respiratory disease in Germany

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2023
Respiratory disease is a significant economic issue in pig farming, with a complex aetiology that includes swine influenza A viruses (swIAV), which are common in European domestic pig populations.

Coinfections and their molecular consequences in the porcine respiratory tract [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2020
Understudied, coinfections are more frequent in pig farms than single infections. In pigs, the term “Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex” (PRDC) is often used to describe coinfections involving viruses such as swine Influenza A Virus (swIAV), Porcine ...

Co‐infection status of novel parvovirus’s (PPV2 to 4) with porcine circovirus 2 in porcine respiratory disease complex and porcine circovirus‐associated disease from 1997 to 2012 [PDF]

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2020
As global pig health diseases, porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) and porcine circovirus-associated disease (PCVAD) generate substantial economic losses despite pigs been vaccinated against the primary causative virus, highlighting the importance of understanding virome interactions and specifically co-factor infections.

Porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) in Indian pigs: a slaughterhouse survey.

open access: yesVeterinaria italiana, 2023
Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC) is an unequivocally leading cause of economic losses to the pig industry. To investigate the pathogens associated with PRDC, a total of 900 lungs with gross lesions and 125 lungs with no appreciable gross lesions were collected from the abattoirs and subjected to pathological investigation for distribution of ...

The development of a point-of-care diagnostic for the porcine respiratory disease complex

open access: yes, 2023
The porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) consists of bacterial and viral pathogens, which commonly cause pneumonia in pigs and result in high economic losses worldwide. The pathogens involved include Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP), Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (MH), Pasteurella multocida (PM), Streptococcus suis (SS) and Glaesserella parasuis (

Porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) [PDF]

open access: yesLivestock, 2011
Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC) is one of the most common and costly clinical conditions encountered in veterinary medicine in commercially kept pigs. In this introductory article (sponsored by Intervet/Schering Plough AH), the clinical presentation in both the individual pig and groups will be described, along with the pathological lesions ...
