Identification of a Novel Porcine Teschovirus Subtype 19 within the Species Teschovirus A. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis, 2023
Porcine teschovirus (PTV) is a member of the genus Teschovirus in the family Picornaviridae. Several novel PTVs in Teschovirus were identified in our previous study. To elucidate the taxonomic status of the species and subtypes, PTV-positive samples were inoculated into porcine kidney (PK-15) and swine testicular (ST) cells.

Identification of a novel porcine Teschovirus 2 strain as causative agent of encephalomyelitis in suckling piglets with high mortality in China [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2023
Background Porcine Teschovirus (PTV), also named Teschovirus A, is prevalent in pig populations, mainly causing neurological symptoms, diarrhea, pneumonia, and reproductive failure, however the morbidity and mortality are usually low in pig farms.

Porcine Teschovirus Polioencephalomyelitis in Western Canada [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation, 2011
Beginning in 2002, a small number of pig farms in western Canada began reporting 4–7-week-old pigs with bilateral hind-end paresis or paralysis. Low numbers of pigs were affected, some died, most had to be euthanized, and those that survived had reduced weight gains and neurological deficits.

Porcine teschovirus in wild boars in Hungary. [PDF]

open access: yesArch Virol, 2012
The genus Teschovirus, family Picornaviridae, currently includes 12 serotypes (PTV 1 to 12) isolated from swine. PTVs have been well studied in domestic pigs, but knowledge about PTVs in wild boars is deficient. Here, we report the first complete PTV genome sequence from 7 (70 %) of 10 fecal samples of wild boar piglets (Sus scrofa) by RT-PCR and ...

Virome of post-weaned diarrhoeic pigs and healthy cohorts in England [PDF]

open access: yesVirology Journal
Background Post-weaning diarrhoea (PWD) is a disease syndrome that negatively impacts pig health, welfare and productivity. PWD typically occurs within two weeks of weaning and coincides with significant physiological changes, including villus atrophy ...

A rapid visual detection method for porcine teschovirus through reverse transcription recombinase-aided amplification coupled with lateral flow dipstick [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Porcine teschovirus (PTV) is an important enteropathogen, associated with symptoms of polioencephalomyelitis, pneumonia, pericarditis, myocarditis, diarrhea, and reproductive disorders in pigs.

Molecular survey of porcine teschovirus, porcine sapelovirus, and enterovirus G in captive wild boars (Sus scrofa scrofa) of Paraná state, Brazil

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2015
Porcine teschovirus (PTV), porcine sapelovirus (PSV), and enterovirus G (EV-G) are infectious agents specific to pig host species that are endemically spread worldwide.

Unique Characteristics of a Picornavirus Internal Ribosome Entry Site from the Porcine Teschovirus-1 Talfan [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2002
ABSTRACT The teschoviruses constitute a recently defined picornavirus genus. Most of the genome sequence of the porcine teschovirus-1 (PTV) Talfan and several other strains is known. We now demonstrate that initiation of protein synthesis occurs at nucleotide (nt) 412 on the PTV Talfan RNA and that nt 1 to 405 contains an internal ribosome ...
