Dewetting on porous media with aspiration

open access: yes, 2000
We consider a porous solid covered with a water film (or with a drop) in situations where the liquid is pumped in, either spontaneously (if the porous medium is hydrophilic) or mechanically (by an external pump).

Endothelial Cells Angiogenesis in Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan (GAG) Hydrogels Enhanced by Bioactive Glass‐Released Ions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...

Anomalous Stiffening of a Conjugated Polymer During Electrochemical Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electromechanical response of a thienothiophene‐based conjugated polymer with triethylene glycol side chains is investigated. Electrochemical nanoindentation and atomic force microscopy reveal a modest and reversible increase in elastic modulus at room temperature upon electrochemical oxidation.

Colloidal Crack Sintering Lithography for Light‐Induced Patterning of Particle Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal crack sintering lithography (CCSL) is a microfabrication technique that uses light‐induced photothermal heating to trigger sintering and controlled cracking in polymer colloidal assemblies. Local structural changes generate microchannels and patterns, enabling direct writing of diverse topographic motifs.

Well-connected basalt sequences as potential reservoirs for large-scale carbon sequestration revealed by strontium isotopes

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Permanent storage of gigatons of carbon in basalt requires thick, uncompartmentalized sequences that allow lateral dissipation of CO2 away from injection sites.

Electro‐Active Polymer Actuated Microfiltration Membranes: Design, Performance, and Particle Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The concept of foulant particle manipulation and detachment from active microfiltration membranes via voltage‐driven vibrations is introduced. Actuator components are initially integrated onto the filtration membranes using an airbrush spray printing technique.

Soil structural indicators as predictors of biological activity under various soil management practices

open access: yesGeoderma
Soil structure is a key feature in controlling the turnover of organic matter in soils. The spatial arrangement of solids and pores in agricultural topsoil can be actively influenced by management practices, such as tillage and cropping systems, which in

Thermo-hydro-mechanical simulation of a full-scale steel-lined micro-tunnel excavated in the callovooxfordian claystone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The paper presents an interpretation of the full-scale ALC1604 in situ heating test carried out in Callovo-Oxfordian claystone (COx) in the Meuse/Haute-Marne underground research laboratory (MHM URL).

Fully Bio‐Based Gelatin Organohydrogels via Enzymatic Crosslinking for Sustainable Soft Strain and Temperature Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Enzymatically crosslinked gelatin‐based organohydrogels, fabricated through a fully bio‐based and scalable process, exhibit exceptional strain and temperature sensing capabilities with minimal interference from environmental humidity. These transparent, stretchable, and ionically conductive materials operate without synthetic fillers or dopants.

Time-Dependent Bearing Capacity of Jacked Piles in Soft Soil Based on Non-Darcy Seepage

open access: yesBuildings
Non-Darcy seepage can more accurately quantify the bearing capacity of jacked piles during the bearing and reconsolidation processes. This paper is divided into three parts.
