A Porosity-Length Formalism for Photon-Tiring-Limited Mass Loss from Stars Above the Eddington Limit

open access: yes, 2004
We examine radiatively driven mass loss from stars near and above the Eddington limit (Ledd). We begin by reviewing the instabilities that are expected to form extensive structure near Ledd.

Is Macroporosity Absolutely Required for Preliminary in Vitro Bone Biomaterial Study? A Comparison Between Porous Materials and Flat Materials

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials, 2011
Porous materials are highly preferred for bone tissue engineering due to space for blood vessel ingrowth, but this may introduce extra experimental variations because of the difficulty in precise control of porosity.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

The Porosity of Additive Noise Sequences

open access: yes, 2012
Consider a binary additive noise channel with noiseless feedback. When the noise is a stationary and ergodic process $\mathbf{Z}$, the capacity is $1-\mathbb{H}(\mathbf{Z})$ ($\mathbb{H}(\cdot)$ denoting the entropy rate).

High‐Rate Deposition and Characterization Study of CoZrO Films for On‐Chip Power Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a high‐rate reactive sputtering process for CoZrO films, aimed at large‐scale production of on‐chip magnetic components compatible with complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) fabrication. Characterization of the deposited films reveals that ideal magnetic properties require chemical compositions in a narrow Co:O range and ...

Influence of a Hydrogen Addition to the Inert Gas and Subsequent Heat Treatments on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Magnesium WE43 Fabricated by PBF‐LB/M

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates optimal processing conditions for the laser‐based powder bed fusion of WE43. To limit the interaction with remaining oxygen, a 3 vol% hydrogen admixture to the inert gas is investigated. Furthermore, heat treatments are investigated in the range of 250–350 °C for 48 h.
