Multiscale Geoelectrical Properties of the Rochechouart Impact Structure, France

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
The 205 Ma Rochechouart impact structure (France) is characterized by various impactite formations overlying the Hercynian crystalline basement. New constraints from downhole logging and surface electrical resistivity measurements along >100 m long ...

Evaluation of porous ceramic cathode layers for solid oxide fuel cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Sr0.15La0.85MnO3 layers with 2 and 10 u thickness, deposited on zirconia based electrolytes, were evaluated as cathodes for high temperature applications. Different electrode layers were characterized in terms of thickness, porosity, three phase boundary

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Mathematical Model of the Deaeration of Finely Dispersed Solid Media in a Spherical Matrix of a Roller-Type Apparatus

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2021
The additional operation of deaeration (compaction) of powders affects the quality of many products of chemical industries, the conditions for their delivery. Otherwise, energy consumption increases significantly.

The influence of heterogenous porosity on silicon nitride/steel wear in lubricated rolling contact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Heterogeneous porosity is detected on the surface and subsurface of hot isostatically pressed (HIPed) silicon nitride spherical rolling elements. The extent of the localised porosity accounts for an area of 6% of the rolling element surface and 4% of the

Hydro-chemical modelling of in situ behaviour of bituminized radioactive waste in Boom Clay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The hydro-chemical (CH) interaction between swelling Eurobitum bituminized radioactive waste (BW) and Boom Clay was investigated to assess the feasibility of geological disposal for the long-term management of this waste.

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

The Effect of Porosity on X-ray Emission Line Profiles from Hot-Star Winds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate the degree to which the nearly symmetric form of X-ray emission lines seen in Chandra spectra of early-type supergiant stars could be explained by a possibly porous nature of their spatially structured stellar winds.
