POROUS METAL BEARINGS

Powder Metallurgy, 1969
To facilitate the proper application of porous metal bearings, engineers demand a reliable method of predicting bearing performance in order that they may check the suitability of their designs. The responsibility of meeting that demand lies with the powder-metallurgy industry as much as with the many industries that use porous metal bearings.

Porous Retainers for Rolling Bearings

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1981
A theoretical analysis is made for the lubrication of ball bearing retainers made of porous material. The results show that at low Sommerfeld reciprocals, the eccentricity ratio tends to unity with a high coefficient of friction. At a certain critical value of the reciprocal, a minimum friction occurs, thereafter followed by hydrodynamic operation ...

On the Stability of Porous Journal Bearings

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1974
This investigation deals with the stability characteristics of lubricated porous journal bearings. Using the short-bearing approximation and a fully cavitated film, the regions of stability are determined by simulation of the nonlinear differential equations of motion.

Squeeze films in porous bearings

Wear, 1974
Abstract Squeeze film behaviour in a narrow porous journal bearing is analysed. The analytical model takes into account the effect of porosity by assuming that the flow in the porous matrix obeys Darcy's law. The modified Reynolds' equation is derived to account for the porosity of the bearing.
