Porous carbons

Sadhana, 2003
Carbon in dense as well as porous solid form is used in a variety of applications. Activated porous carbons are made through pyrolysis and activation of carbonaceous natural as well as synthetic precursors. Pyrolysed woods replicate the structure of original wood but as such possess very low surface areas and poor adsorption capacities.

Virtual Porous Carbons

2012
This chapter reviews results obtained using virtual porous carbon (VPC) models associated with molecular simulation techniques. By discussing different examples, we try to demonstrate that this can be a really helpful approach in adsorption science. At the start of the chapter, we briefly describe the concept of VPC, the methods of absolute pore-size ...

Water in porous carbons

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2001
Abstract We present an overview of progress in understanding the behavior of water in porous carbons at the molecular level. We survey experimental investigations, semi-empirical approaches, and simulation studies. Experimental work faces a number of challenges: the determination of the distribution of carbon microcrystal sizes, the densities and ...

Porous carbon composite/enzyme glucose microsensor

Frontiers in Bioscience, 2004
An enzyme glucose microsensor using a glucose oxidase-immobilized porous carbon/Teflon composite microelectrode was developed. The microsensor was fabricated by etching a platinum microelectrode (platinum, radius of 25 and 50 micrometers) in hot aqua regia to create a cavity at the tip and then packing a porous carbon/Teflon composite, which was made ...

Porous Carbons for Carbon Dioxide Capture

2014
Porous carbons play an important role in CO2 adsorption and separation due to their developed porosity, excellent stability, wide availability, and tunable surface chemistry. In this chapter, the synthesis strategies of porous carbon materials and evaluation of their performance in CO2 capture are reviewed.

Fabrication of porous carbon nanotube network

Chemical Communications, 2008
We used the spin-coating method combined with ultrasonic atomization as a continuous, one-step process to generate a two-dimensional honeycomb network that was constructed from pure multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

Tailoring porous carbon spheres for supercapacitors

Nanoscale, 2018
In this review, we provide a comprehensive summarization of the syntheses of porous carbon spheres with tailored structures for supercapacitors. Five categories of synthetic methodologies are generally discussed.

Porous hollow carbon nanotube composite cages

Chemical Communications, 2006
Mechanically robust, hollow carbon nanotube composite spheres that are permeable to large chemical species were prepared by a layer-by-layer assembly and templating technique.

Deformation of Porous Carbons upon Adsorption

Langmuir, 2011
N2 and CO2 sorption measurements with in situ dilatometry implemented in a commercial volumetric sorption instrument were performed at 77 and 273 K, respectively. The resolution of the linear deformation was about ±0.2 μm. To separate effects due to microporosity, external surface area and mesopores synthetic porous carbons (xerogels) with different ...

Recent Progress on Porous Carbons for Carbon Capture

Langmuir
High emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) has caused CO2 levels to reach more than 400 ppm in air and led to a serious climate problem. In addition, in confined spaces such as submarines and aircraft, the CO2 concentration increase in the air caused by human respiration also affects human health.
