Ammonia Thermal Treatment toward Topological Defects in Porous Carbon for Enhanced Carbon Dioxide Electroreduction

Advances in Materials, 2020
Topological defects, with an asymmetric local electronic redistribution, are expected to locally tune the intrinsic catalytic activity of carbon materials.

Gold nanoparticles encapsulated in porous carbon

Chemical Communications, 2012
Gold nanoparticles encapsulated in porous carbon spheres with high surface areas (~800 m(2) g(-1)) have been synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). The porous carbon-encapsulated gold nanoparticles exhibit excellent catalytic activity toward the reductions of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic nitroaromatics.

Preparation of porous carbon spheres from porous starch

Solid State Ionics, 2009
Abstract Porous carbon spheres were prepared through two steps: (a) coating a Na2SnO3 or Na2SiO3 protective layer onto the surface of porous starch, and then (b) carbonizing the products. The carbon spheres were characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.

Phenol adsorption on porous and non-porous carbons

Carbon, 2003
Phenol physisorption on a series of porous and non-porous amorphous carbons was studied at 298 K. Grand Canonical Monte Carlo computer simulations were performed to simulate phenol adsorption from the gas phase. Phenol is adsorbed in a solid-like state within the pores and there is no well-developed multilayer regime. The ‘t’ plot method was adapted to

Metal-Organic-Framework-Derived Hollow N-Doped Porous Carbon with Ultrahigh Concentrations of Single Zn Atoms for Efficient Carbon Dioxide Conversion.

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
The development of efficient and low energy-consumption catalysts for CO2 conversion is desired, yet remains a great challenge. Herein, a class of novel hollow porous carbons (HPC), featuring well dispersed dopants of nitrogen and single Zn atoms, have ...

Porous carbon-carbon composites for fuel cells

Fibre Chemistry, 2007
Technology for fabricating porous current-conducting gas-diffusion supports for fuel element electrodes made of carbon-carbon composites with the structure of fabrics, knits, and nonwovens was developed. The process scheme for manufacturing gas-diffusion electrodes for fuel cells was examined.

Micromechanical Modeling of Porous Carbon/Carbon Composites

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2005
A procedure to model fiber-reinforced composites containing pores of irregular shapes is presented. Closed-form expressions for contributions of fibers and pores into effective elastic moduli are provided. The procedure is applied to predict the transverse elastic properties of unidirectional carbon/carbon composites (carbon fibers in pyrolytic carbon ...

Hierarchically Porous Carbon Plates Derived from Wood as Bifunctional ORR/OER Electrodes

Advances in Materials, 2019
Porous carbon electrodes have emerged as important cathode materials for metal–air battery systems. However, most approaches for fabricating porous carbon electrodes from biomass are highly energy inefficient as they require the breaking down of the ...

Porous carbon and carbon composite hollow spheres

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2008
In this communication, we propose a template approach toward synthesis of carbon hollow spheres by direct carbonization of highly crosslinked sulfonated polystyrene gel hollow spheres (sPS). The sulfonic acid group can facilitate carbonization. Moreover, the acid group can also induce a favorable growth of other materials within the sPS gel-forming ...
