Porous materials for carbon dioxide separations

Nature Materials, 2021
Global investment in counteracting climate change has galvanized increasing interest in carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) as a versatile emissions mitigation technology. As decarbonization efforts accelerate, CCS can target the emissions of large point-source emitters, such as coal- or natural gas-fired power plants, while also supporting the ...

Polymer-Derived Heteroatom-Doped Porous Carbon Materials

Chemical Reviews, 2020
Heteroatom-doped porous carbon materials (HPCMs) have found extensive applications in adsorption/separation, organic catalysis, sensing, and energy conversion/storage. The judicious choice of carbon precursors is crucial for the manufacture of HPCMs with specific usages and maximization of their functions.

Pyrolytic densification of porous carbon-carbon composite materials

Inorganic Materials, 2012
This paper examines the densification of the pore space of a carbon-carbon composite material through methane pyrolysis at a reduced pressure and the dynamics of the pyrolytic saturation process. The morphology and microstructure of the pyrolytic carbon are compared to those of the main components of the parent carbon-carbon composite material.

Porous carbon from polymer waste materials

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 1999
Abstract Polymer waste materials, instead of ending up in incineration plants, can better be recycled into activated carbon. The properties of polyacrylonitrile, polyethyleneterephthalate and cellulose based carbons prepared by steam activation are reported in this paper. Microscopic (SEM, STM or AFM), SAXS and various adsorption techniques have been

Porous Heat Insulation from Carbon Materials

Fibre Chemistry, 2016
The major types of carbon materials used for heat insulation in high-temperature furnaces are investigated. Such properties as density and heat conduction and a general scheme of heat insulation manufacture are cited. The effect of carbon residue content and density on the coefficient of thermal conductivity of heat insulating materials, such as carbon-

Preparation of Porous Carbon Material by Carbonizing Polyacrylonitrile Microspheres

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
PAN microspheres were crosslinked with divinyl benzene (DVB) and styrene (St), and then pre-oxidized under atmospheric pressure, porous carbon microspheres were produced by carbonizing the pretreated microspheres under nitrogen protection. Morphology and structure characterizations of the materials were performed by employing scanning electron ...
