Hydrodynamic Porous Journal Bearings. Part I—Finite Full Bearings
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1974The Reynolds condition is shown to correctly describe the film termination in hydrodynamic porous journal bearings. A practical and accurate numerical method for calculating bearing performance is developed, which permits the use of realistic boundary conditions, including the Reynolds condition.

On the Stability of Porous Journal Bearings
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1974This investigation deals with the stability characteristics of lubricated porous journal bearings. Using the short-bearing approximation and a fully cavitated film, the regions of stability are determined by simulation of the nonlinear differential equations of motion.

Axially undefined porous journal bearings considering cavitation
Wear, 1972Abstract An analysis is made of the performance of axially undefined porous journal bearings using the Reynolds' boundary conditions. Expressions for angular film-extent, pressure distribution, load carrying capacity, attitude angle and coefficient of friction are obtained in closed form.

Gas-Lubricated Porous Bearings—Short Journal Bearings, Steady-State Solution
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1977The governing equations for a short porous bearing are derived by adopting Ocvirk’s approximation to the general equations for a finite bearing, which are given in a previous paper (reference [1]). Crank-Nicholson’s numerical method and the analytical-numerical technique, which consists of Green function approximation and the local smoothing by ...

Lubrication of Porous Journal Bearings
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1972An analytical solution for the performance characteristics of finite porous journal bearings is obtained. Results are presented which relate the eccentricity ratio and coefficient of friction as functions of load number for design variables of 0.0001, 0.001, 0.01, and 0.1. The load capacity obtained by using the finite bearing theory is compared to the

Gas-Lubricated Porous Bearings—Infinitely Long Journal Bearings, Steady-State Solution
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1976The general governing equations for finite porous journal bearings with compressible lubricants and slip-flow are derived. A mass content rule is developed for infinitely long porous bearings; an exact solution is established for a gas-lubricated porous bearing with very large bearing number consistent with the mass content rule.
