Gas-Lubricated Porous Bearings of Finite Length—Self-Acting Journal Bearings
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1979The effects of porosity on the performance of gas bearings are investigated. A thin-wall approximation is developed to simplify the coupling between the Reynolds equation in the fluid film and the three dimensional Laplace equation in the porous matrix.

Investigation of slip effects in plane porous journal bearings
Wear, 1981Abstract Slip effects in plane porous journal bearings are considered realistically: only the slip coefficient is treated as an independent parameter and the porosity and the ratio of clearance to journal radius are the other factors which determine the effects of slip.

Experimental Investigations into the Performance of Porous Journal Bearings
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1984<div class="htmlview paragraph">Results of experiments conducted on complete as well as partial porous journal bearings operating under steady conditions are herein presented. Performance characteristics presently determined include eccentricity ratio, coefficient of friction and attitude angle.

Externally Pressurized Gas Journal Bearings With Porous Inserts
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980An analytical solution of externally pressurized gas journal bearings with porous inserts as restrictors is presented. The solution is based on a first-order perturbation method with respect to eccentricity ratio.

Porous Wall Gas Lubricated Journal Bearings: Experimental Investigation
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1979A model has been developed to compute the dynamic stiffness and damping properties of externally pressurized, porous-wall, gas journal bearings. The derivation of this model is described in a companion paper. A special test apparatus was constructed to experimentally investigate the steady and unsteady characteristics of a 51-mm diameter by 51-mm long ...

Bifurcation analysis of externally pressurized porous gas journal bearings
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2003This paper studies the bifurcation of a rigid rotor supported by an externally pressurized porous gas journal bearing. A time-dependent mathematical model for porous gas journal bearings is presented. The modified Reynolds equation is solved using the finite difference method and the SOR (successive over relation) method.

Surface Roughness Effects in Infinitely Long Porous Journal Bearings
Journal of Tribology, 1999Christensen’s stochastic theory of hydrodynamic lubrication of rough surfaces is used to study the effect of surface roughness in an infinitely long porous journal bearing operating under steady conditions. It is shown that the surface roughness considerably influences the bearing performance; the direction of the influence depends on the roughness ...

Torque of misaligned gas-lubricated porous journal bearings
Wear, 1976Abstract A perturbation solution is obtained for torque produced by misaligned porous gas journal bearings. It is shown that misalignment torque in porous bearings is higher than that obtained in conventional (externally pressurized and self-acting) gas bearings. The results are given in graphical and tabular form.

Hydrostatic Journal Bearing With Porous Pads and Improved Properties
Journal of Tribology, 2019Abstract A hydrostatic journal bearing with porous pads to improve its performance is designed. The porous pads, which are embedded in recesses of the hydrostatic journal bearing, not only allow lubricant to flow through them but also form a complete cylindrical surface with the bearing land.
