Novel Porous Polymorphs of Zinc Cyanide with Rich Thermal and Mechanical Behavior

open access: yes, 2015
We investigate the feasibility of four-connected nets as hypothetical zinc cyanide polymorphs, as well as their thermal and mechanical properties, through quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics simulations.

Attachment of composite porous supra-particles to air–water and oil–water interfaces: theory and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We developed and tested a theoretical model for the attachment of fluid-infused porous supra-particles to a fluid–liquid interface. We considered the wetting behaviour of agglomerated clusters of particles, typical of powdered materials dispersed in a ...

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

Phonon Bottleneck Identification in Disordered Nanoporous Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Nanoporous materials are a promising platform for thermoelectrics in that they offer high thermal conductivity tunability while preserving good electrical properties, a crucial requirement for high- effciency thermal energy conversion.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Copper–Tungsten Composites for Heat Sink Applications in High‐Power Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article demonstrates the successful qualification of a copper–tungsten composite for laser powder bed fusion. The resulting components exhibited high density, high thermal conductivity, and reduced thermal expansion. Heat sinks with complex geometries were successfully manufactured, clearly showcasing the material's potential for additive ...

A Three-Dimensional Cadmium(II) Coordination Network Based on 1,3-Di-(1,2,4-triazole-4-yl)benzene: Synthesis, Structure, and Luminescence Properties

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
1,2,4-Triazole and its derivatives have been investigated extensively in the construction of coordination polymers. Using a 1,2,4-triazole ligand 1,3-di-(1,2,4-triazole-4-yl)benzene (dtb), a new three-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Cd2(dtb)2(SO4 ...

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Validity of the one-dimensional limp model for porous materials

open access: yes, 2008
A straightforward criterion to determine the limp model validity for porous materials is addressed here. The limp model is an "equivalent fluid" model which gives a better description of the porous behavior than the well known "rigid frame" model.
