Interspecies dynamics among bacteria associated with canine periodontal disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The etiology and pathogenic mechanisms associated with canine periodontal disease are less well understood than the disease in humans. In this study we have reconstructed defined consortia biofilms in vitro of microorganisms identified as prevalent in a ...

The bacteriostatic effect of erythritol on canine periodontal disease–related bacteria

open access: yes, 2022
Erythritol helps both prevent and improve periodontal disease and is therefore widely used for dental care in humans. However, only a few studies have investigated the effects of erythritol on periodontal disease in animals.

Isolation of a Variant Porphyromonas Sp. from Polymicrobial Infections in Central Bearded Dragons (Pogona Vitticeps)

open access: yes, 2011
Isolates of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria from reptiles have only occasionally been identified to the genus and species level in the veterinary medical literature. In particular, reports identifying Porphyromonas spp.

Oral interferon alpha treatment significantly reduces halitosis and Porphyromonas gulae growth in dogs with periodontal disease

open access: yesThe Veterinary Journal
Periodontal disease (PD) is one of the most common infectious conditions in dogs, associated with plaque accumulation, gingival inflammation, halitosis, and tooth loss. Halitosis is primarily caused by volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) generated by anaerobic bacteria, including Porphyromonas gulae (P. gulae), a pathogen closely linked to PD progression.
