Liver atrophy and encephalopathy after portacaval shunt in the rat.
European surgical research. Europaische chirurgische Forschung. Recherches chirurgicales europeennes, 1982The effect of various types of portal diversion (portacaval, mesocaval and pancreatico-splenocaval anastomoses, portacaval transposition and arterialization) on liver atrophy and post-shunt encephalopathy was studied in the rat.

Haemostatic and immunological sequelae of portacaval shunt in rats.
Liver, 2008We have evaluated the link between haemostatic abnormalities and immune dysfunction in liver disease by evaluating parameters of cellular and humoral immunity in conjunction with coagulation profiles in rats following portacaval anastomosis, induction of

Immediate and long-term portal hemodynamic consequences of small-diameter H-graft portacaval shunt.
Journal of Surgical Research, 1998BACKGROUND Effective hepatic blood flow is thought to play a critical role in outcome following portal decompressive procedures. We have shown previously that hepatic arterialization occurs soon after shunting, preserving nutrient flow, but the remote ...

Partial portal decompression (PPD) is gaining popularity in the treatment of portal hypertension. We have achieved PPD in over 80 patients by utilizing an 8-mm prosthetic H-graft portacaval shunt (HGPCS).

[Late results of portacaval surgical shunt in patients with extrahepatic portal hypertension].
Eksperimental'naia i klinicheskaia gastroenterologiia = Experimental & clinical gastroenterology, 2004Late outcomes of portocaval shunting (PCS) were analyzed in 135 patients with extrahepatic portal hypertension (EPH). It was established that the methods of choice in such patients should be splenorenal anastomosis, mesentericocaval anastomosis (MCA) "side by side" and H-type with autovenous or synthetic insertions.
