Bona Fide Intersegmental Plane Hepatectomy Along the Glissonean Branches (BIPHG)

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review traces the author's personal journey over three decades in the evolution of liver resection techniques, culminating in the proposal of the Bona Fide Intersegmental Plane Hepatectomy Along Glissonean Branches (BIPHG). Beginning with pioneering experiences in laparoscopic and robotic liver surgeries, the author highlights key ...

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

[Preoperative portal vein embolization: dynamics of portal pressure].

open access: yesKlinichna khirurhiia, 2014
The pressure dynamics was studied in a portal vein (PV) in patients, suffering focal hepatic pathology, to whom portal vein embolization (PVE) was performed as a stage of preparation to radical hepatic resection. In 236 patients the immediate measurement of pressure in a PV was performed intraoperatively before and after PVE, in 26 - catheter for ...

Risk Factors for Small‐for‐Size Syndrome Grade B/C After Simultaneous Splenectomy in Adult Living‐Donor Liver Transplantation

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
In a single‐center cohort of 577 adult LDLT recipients who underwent simultaneous splenectomy, clinically significant SFSS grade B/C (ILTS‐iLDLT‐LTSI 2023) occurred in 18.2% and was associated with inferior graft survival. Multivariate analysis identified MELD ≥ 30, NLR ≥ 4.5, and donor age ≥ 50 years as independent risk factors, which risk rising ...

Enhanced mitochondrial activity reshapes a gut microbiota profile that delays NASH progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Improved mitochondrial activity, due to the lack of methylation‐controlled J protein (MCJ), creates a specific microbiota signature that when transferred through cecal microbiota transplantation delays NASH progression by restoring the gut‐liver axis and enhancing hepatic fatty acid oxidation.

Portal hypertension contributes to ascites formation via the Piezo1−nuclear factor kappa-B−aquaporin1 pathway in liver cirrhosis

open access: yesExperimental and Molecular Medicine
Portal hypertension is critical to the development of ascites in liver cirrhosis. The aim of our study was to evaluate the contribution of portal hypertension to ascites formation and explore the underlying mechanism.

Recent Advances in the Pathogenesis and Clinical Evaluation of Portal Hypertension in Chronic Liver Disease

open access: yesGut and Liver
In chronic liver disease, hepatic stellate cell activation and degeneration of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells lead to structural changes, which are secondary to fibrosis and the presence of regenerative nodules in the sinusoids, and to functional ...

Factors Influencing Portal Pressure in Banti's Syndrome

open access: yesThe Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine, 1963
Factors responsible for elevation of the portal pressure in Banti's syndrome were analyzed in 82 cases of the authors' department. Although the elevation of the portal pressure was more common and usually more remarkable in extent in cases with chronic inflammation or fibrosis than in those with liver cirrhosis, no definite correlation was revealed ...

Prognostic Significance of Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Treated With Chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To examine the significance of portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) as a prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery. Methods The study retrospectively examined 313 patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced (LA) PDAC who underwent CRT ...
