Persistent varices in cured patients: Understanding the role of hepatic venous pressure gradient
Background & Aims: Etiologic factor removal (ER) drives recompensation and improves portal hypertension in cirrhosis. Esophageal varices (EV) and portosystemic shunts (PSS) have been found in patients despite hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG ...

Gli1+ adventitial stem cells (ASCs) have been thought to generate smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in atherosclerosis. Using a dual‐recombinase lineage tracing to exclude ectopic labeling, Wang et al. found that Gli1+ ASCs do not contribute to SMCs in atherosclerotic plaques.

Portosystemic collateral pathways and interventions in portal hypertension
Pathologic increase in portal pressure can be caused by increased resistance to blood flow at the level of the portal vein (pre-hepatic), hepatic sinusoids (hepatic) or hepatovenous outflow (post-hepatic).

A new liver perfusion and preservation system for transplantation Research in large animals [PDF]
A kidney perfusion machine, model MOX-100 (Waters Instruments, Ltd, Rochester, MN) was modified to allow continuous perfusion of the portal vein and pulsatile perfusion of the hepatic artery of the liver. Additional apparatus consists of a cooling system,

On the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) peaks at intermediate soil organic carbon levels and declines thereafter. In carbon‐rich soils, the formation of stable mineral‐associated organic carbon is decoupled from microbial CUE.

ARID1A is frequently mutated in both non‐malignant tissues and cancers, but its role in tumor development after exposure to genotoxic carcinogen remains unclear. It is found that aristolochic acid I accelerated liver tumorigenesis in ARID1A‐deficient context by impairing nucleotide excision repair and enhancing carcinogen bioactivation, revealing key ...

HmmyCAFs may form a triple immunosuppressive niche: possibly secrete ECM (POSTN, etc.) as physical barriers to block CD8⁺ T cells, induce CD8⁺ T exhaustion via those molecules, and use HIF‐1α‐driven metabolism to create acidic, nutrient‐poor microenvironments that suppress T cells.

This study presents a low‐carbon footprint, robust 3D (three‐dimensional) evaporator featuring multi‐level low‐tortuosity channels for highly efficient desalination. It achieves an outstanding average evaporation rate of 8.1 kg m−2 h−1, salt collection rate of 1.95 kg m−2 h−1, and durability in high‐salinity brine.

On the Nature of Improper Hydrogen Bonding in RCH2F and RCHF2 Motifs
The nature of ‘improper’ hydrogen bonds is explored in FnC─H⋯X systems, such as RCF2H interaction with chloride and water. It is noted that increased fluorination decreases the positive charge density on H but increases it on C, thus these interactions are dominated by electrostatic attraction to C over H.
