Biobased Polyurethane Films Based on Andiroba (Carapa guianensis) and Buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) Oil Polyols

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Polyurethane films were prepared from andiroba (Carapa guianensis) and buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) oil‐derived polyols, emphasizing their potential as bio‐based materials. UV–Vis analysis indicates the retention of carotenoid‐related chromophoric features within the polymer matrix.

DISEASES OF PORTO RICO [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1913
Porto Rico is an interesting island-gem forming an emerald setting of the crescent of the West Indies. The climatic and social conditions are such that the various diseases have no difficulty in making great headway, when permitted to pursue their natural course. It is about the diseases here encountered that I wish to speak. Manson has well said, "If

Microwave‐Assisted Alcoholysis of Ethylene–Vinyl Acetate: Phenomenological and Thermal Evolution of EVAOH Terpolymers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Microwave‐assisted alcoholysis converts EVA into EVAOH terpolymers, promoting a progressive transition from EVA‐like crystallites to VOH‐rich hydrogen‐bonded crystalline domains. Solvent‐controlled swelling influences conversion kinetics, while thermal analysis reveals a sigmoidal increase in melting temperature that a two‐population crystallization ...

OIDIOMYCOSIS IN PORTO RICO [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1914
While about 150 cases of oidiomycosis have been recorded, we think this is the first case noted in Porto Rico. The diagnosis was made from an examination of fresh specimens of pus in 10 per cent. sodium hydroxid solution, and of stained smears. The pus, which was rather whitish, contained numerous doubly-contoured, oval and spherical bodies, frequently

Variation in parrot jaw musculature

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Interspecific morphological differences in some superficial jaw muscles of parrots. Abstract Psittaciformes, the order encompassing parrots and their relatives, are highly diverse and generally known for having a strong beaks used for multiple behaviors. The muscles related to the masticatory apparatus should reflect this functional complexity; however,

O porto do Porto

open access: yes, 2013

Comparative and functional anatomy of masticatory muscles and bite force in opossums (Didelphimorphia, Didelphidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
We describe the functional anatomy of masticatory muscles in nine opossums, finding a generalized anatomical pattern with differences related to skull morphology. Variation in quantitative myological data and estimated bite force was mostly related to size, and the increase in bite force supports dietary diversification associated with size increase ...
