KCNJ2 is Required for NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation That Drives Allergic Airway Inflammation and Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the potassium channel KCNJ2 on asthma development. KCNJ2 promotes NLRP3 inflammasome activation through both Ca2+ influx and K+ efflux in airway epithelial cells, which drives allergic airway inflammation and remodeling, suggesting a promising therapeutic target for asthma.

Spatial and Temporal Aggregation in the Estimation of Labor Demand Functions [PDF]

open access: yes
The consequences of aggregation, temporal or spatial, for the estimation of demand models are theoretically well-known, but have not been documented empirically with appropriate data before. In this paper we conduct a simple, but instructive, exercise to

Endoplasmic Reticulum Geometry Dictates Neuronal Bursting via Calcium Store Refill Rates and Exposes Selective Neuronal Vulnerability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ER's continuous tubular network is maintained by ER‐shaping proteins whose mutation or dysregulation contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we show that ER morphology sets the speed of Ca2+ store replenishment between firing events. Disrupting ER continuity slows intra‐ER Ca2+ redistribution from extracellular refill (SOCE) sites, driving

Why Do Firms Use Fixed-Term Contracts? [PDF]

open access: yes
Temporary forms of employment account for a variable but never trivial share of total employment in both the U.S. and in Europe. In this article we look at how one specific form of temporary employment − employment with fixed-term contracts − fits into ...

Self‐Assisted Charge Storage‐Release Mechanism Enabling Flexible Design of Biomimetic Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the mimosa, this study develops a flexible triboelectric nanogenerator with a novel microneedle array and battery‐mimetic architecture. The device introduces a spontaneous charge self‐regulation mechanism that confines the electric field below the air breakdown threshold, and achieves an outstanding charge density of 396.50 µC m−2 ...
