The Australian Portunids (Crustacea : Portunidae). III. The Genus Portunus

Marine and Freshwater Research, 1959
Thirteen species of the genus Portunus Weber are recorded from Australia, including one new species and five new records. These species are described and illustrated, and a key is given to known Indo-West-Pacific species. First pleopods of males are considered in detail and a key based on their features is included.

Carapace subhexagonal to transversely oval, usually broader than long, flat, slighlty convex, regions not well-defined, posterior surface with transverse ridges, epibranchial ridge present; anterolateral margins with spines, with distint junction with posterolateral margin, usually marked with epibranchial spine.
