Posidonia oceanica: A tracer of past mercury contamination

Environmental Pollution, 2007
The aim of this study is to assess the relevance and the potential of Posidonia oceanica as a tracer of past mercury contamination. Shoots were collected on two sites, an impacted site, Rosignano (Tuscany, Italy), and a pristine site, Tonnara (Corsica, France).

Effects of fish farming on flavonoids in Posidonia oceanica

Science of The Total Environment, 2006
This work is a first approach to flavonoid responses (total proanthocyanidins and total and simple flavonols) in Posidonia oceanica in function of nutrient enrichment (aquaculture activities - fish farming), in the western Mediterranean Sea (Calvi-Corsica-France). The first result is the presence of total and simple flavonoids in P. oceanica.

Mercury levels and fluxes in Posidonia oceanica meadows

Environmental Pollution, 1999
Mercury levels in the marine phanerogam Posidonia oceanica were evaluated at three sites subjected to different environmental conditions (anthropogenic activity). Mercury uptake by primary production varied from 9.9 to 100.6 microg m(-2) year(-1). For the entire Mediterranean basin, nearly one ton of mercury is mobilized each year, that is to say ...

Composting of Posidonia oceanica and Its Use in Agriculture

2002
The extraordinary accumulation of deposits of the seaweed Posidonia oceanica on the beaches of Sardinia has given rise to a series of problems linked to its disposal. Leafy deposits of Posidonia oceanica are treated as refuse and disposed of in waste dumps. This is an enormous waste of organic material.

Posidonija (Posidonia oceanica)

2005

Occurrence of mucous aggregates and their impact on Posidonia oceanica beds

Science of The Total Environment, 2005
Mucous macro-aggregates of both pelagic and benthic origin are recurrently observed in the meadows formed by the seagrass Posidonia oceanica around the island of Ischia (Gulf of Naples, Italy). In the past two decades, major events occurred in 1991, 1993 and 2000, when a thick layer of mucilage covered vast areas of the meadows.
