Dimension hopping and families of strictly positive definite zonal basis functions on spheres [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2017
Positive definite functions of compact support are widely used for radial basis function approximation as well as for estimation of spatial processes in geostatistics. Several constructions of such functions for Rd are based upon recurrence operators.

The Genetic Basis of Positive Emotionality

2014
The chapter addresses the molecular genetic basis of the personality trait positive emotionality (PE). Beginning with historical aspects of heritability estimation and personality assessment, the main portion of this chapter discusses the molecular genetics basis of PE, which is investigated far less frequently than that of negative emotionality (NE ...

Realization on indoor positioning in basis of reference tag

International Journal of Wavelets, Multiresolution and Information Processing, 2014
In this paper, we analyze and explore the layout of reference tags and interpolation method in the reference tag based RFID scene analysis of indoor localization method, and propose triangular layout mode, as well as adopt Newtons interpolation polynomial to calculate virtual reference tags RSSI values instead of linear interpolation.

A positive answer to the basis problem

Israel Journal of Mathematics, 1998
Let \(X\) be a separable Banach space. There are given various definitions of bases \((x_n)\) in \(X\), where \(x_n\in X\) for \(n= 1,2,\dots\)\ . Among else there is defined the uniformly minimal basis \((x_n)\) with quasi-fixed brackets and permutations, denoted in the following by \((D_4)\).

Biological Basis of Positional Head Deformations

2021
In the last two decades, pediatricians observe an immense increase in the incidence of skull deformities with patent sutures, also known as positional plagiocephaly or positional brachycephaly. This chapter introduces the topic with its biological basis, its risk factors, as well as its clinical classification.

The basis and position of ethics in civil responsibility

Comparative Studies in Jurisprudence, Law, and Politics, 2023
Civil liability is non-contractual responsibilities that are created by coercion and by law. There is a difference of opinion among jurists regarding the basis of civil responsibility; The range of differences ranges from theories of personal fault to type fault, risk and right guarantee.

A Learnable Radial Basis Positional Embedding for Coordinate-MLPs

Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2023
We propose a novel method to enhance the performance of coordinate-MLPs (also referred to as neural fields) by learning instance-specific positional embeddings. End-to-end optimization of positional embedding parameters along with network weights leads to poor generalization performance.

The experiential basis of serial position effects

European Journal of Cognitive Psychology, 1995
Abstract Subjects studied eight lists in preparation for single-trial, free recall tests, but were tested only on four lists. They later received a recognition test over all lists and judged items as “old” or “new” and, when old, judged whether they actually remembered the occurrence of the word or knew that it occurred on some other basis.

Source position estimation using radial basis functions

Proceedings of 13th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 1996
The problem of bearing estimation using radar focal plane arrays is addressed. Motivated by a requirement for a compact integrated solution in the sensor focal plane, a basis function approach is adopted. The development of a solution that is robust to sensor noise leads to a ridge regression-type estimate for the model parameters.
