A consensus on the definition of positive animal welfare [PDF]

open access: yesBiology Letters
The concept of animal welfare is evolving due to progress in our scientific understanding of animal biology and changing societal expectations. Animal welfare science has been primarily concerned with minimizing suffering, but there is growing interest in also promoting positive experiences, grouped under the term positive animal welfare (PAW). However,

On the validity of parametric block correlation matrices with constant within and between group correlations

open access: yes, 2017
We consider the set Bp of parametric block correlation matrices with p blocks of various (and possibly different) sizes, whose diagonal blocks are compound symmetry (CS) correlation matrices and off-diagonal blocks are constant matrices.

Real‐Time Motion Generation for Robot Manipulators in Complex Dynamic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A motion generation method for robot manipulators in complex dynamic environments is presented. The method integrates global motion planning with local obstacle avoidance, ensuring continuous movement toward dynamically measured target poses. An online distance calculation algorithm is developed, and a collision‐free motion generator is proposed that ...

Applications of partial orderings to the study of positive definiteness

open access: yes, 1972
Most of the known results concerning convergence of iterative methods for solving linear systems involve either positive definiteness or monotonicity. In this paper a new concept, called K, is introduced, which provides a link between convergence theory,

A Study on Optimal Data Bandwidth of Recurrent Neural Network–Based Dynamics Model for Robot Manipulators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this article, RNN–based learning method is proposed to achieve overall dynamic model of robot manipulators, which is established by optimal data‐bandwidth. The optimal data‐bandwidth is developed as a key behavior of the proposed method, which is designed on the loss function and its derivative.

A Wearable Soft Actuator for Directional Tactile Stimulation: Design and Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A wearable actuator able to produce directional tactile stimulation is obtained by embedding a planar shape memory spring in silicone matrix. The matrix is designed taking into account skin characteristics and leveraging its multifunctionality: it acts as a bias load, improves the thermal behavior of the spring and wearability.

The Dirichlet problem successive upper relaxation numerical method convergence relaxation parameters influence investigations

open access: yesKarpatsʹkì Matematičnì Publìkacìï, 2012
The relaxation parameters values to definite sequential upper relaxation block method convergence optimal velocity have been determined for the Dirichlet's problem in two-dimensional rectangle spatial region, the iteration procedure convergence and ...
