Some thoughts on positive definiteness in the consideration of nuclear data covariance matrices [PDF]
Some basic mathematical features of covariance matrices are reviewed, particularly as they relate to the property of positive difiniteness. Physical implications of positive definiteness are also discussed. Consideration is given to an examination of the

The polymer wall stabilized dye‐doped liquid crystals (PWLCs) enhance the sensitivity of photoinduced molecular reorientation in dye‐doped LC systems. The PWLC with an invisible polymer wall successfully reduces the threshold intensity and functions as an optical limiter under the incidence of low intensity light laser source.

A Bootstrap Test for Positive Definiteness of Income Effect Matrices
Positive definiteness of income effect matrices provides a sufficient condition for the law of demand to hold. Given cross section household expenditure data, empirical evidence for the law of demand can be obtained by estimating such matrices. Hardle,

On a Factorisation of Positive Definite Matrices [PDF]
All our matrices are square with real elements. The Schur product of two n × n matrices B = (bij) and C = (cij) (i, j, = 1, 2, …, n), is an n × n matrix A = (aij) with aij = bij cij, (i, j = 1, 2, …, n).A result due to Schur [1] states that if B and C are symmetric positive definite matrices then so is their Schur product A. A question now a rises. Can

Computational geometry of positive definiteness
In matrix computations, such as in factoring matrices, Hermitian and, preferably, positive definite elements are occasionally required. Related problems can often be cast as those of existence of respective elements in a matrix subspace.

A targeted modulation of the MoS2 electronic structure is achieved via substitutional n‐type Co/Fe co‐doping. This strategy triggers S‐mediated d‐p hybridization, optimizing the binding affinity with polysulfides to establish a volcano‐shaped relationship between the d‐band center and catalytic activity.

Positivity of convolution quadratures generated by nonconvex sequences
The positive definiteness of real quadratic forms of convolution type plays an important role in the stability analysis of time-stepping schemes for nonlocal models.

On the sign definiteness of Liapunov functionals and stability of a linear delay equation
In this paper we give a new definition of the positive-definiteness of the Liapunov functional involved in the stability and asymptotic stability investigation.
