Pharmacokinetics and tolerability of single‐dose Staccato® alprazolam in adolescents with epilepsy, and population pharmacokinetic analysis to support dose selection in adolescents

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
This is a graphical representation of the abstract and article highlights. Abstract Objective Staccato® alprazolam is a hand‐held inhalation device that provides rapid systemic delivery of alprazolam through the intrapulmonary route. Respiratory dysfunction and fatal apnea during pilocarpine‐induced status epilepticus

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Status epilepticus (SE) is second only to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy as a cause of seizure‐related mortality. The progression of respiratory dysfunction during experimental SE remains poorly characterized. We investigated how pilocarpine‐induced SE affects respiration in mice.

Bilateral laryngeal paralysis (aplegia) occurring late during the recovery of a horse after orthopaedic surgery

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 9‐year‐old male castrated Standardbred was presented for evaluation of a comminuted right front first phalanx fracture. On initial clinical examination, mild haemoconcentration and increased vital parameters were noted. After overnight hospitalisation, the horse underwent general anaesthesia for surgical fracture repair.
